Espresso Cups

!±8± Espresso Cups

Connoisseurs of espresso insist on the finest coffee beans, and a golden-rich crema however they are just as insistent on the cup it is served in. Espresso served in a typical coffee mug amounts to little more than overly strong, bitter coffee. Espresso cups are created specifically for espresso. They may be petite in size but they are immense in the presentation of a proper espresso.

Espresso is a small, usually 1 to 2 oz., shot of strong, bitter coffee. But, it is so much more than that. The name "espresso" comes from the Italian meaning "pressed out". Using a steam and water in a special machine, a finely ground dark coffee is pressed out. The resulting drink is an extremely concentrated amount of coffee with a thin layer of froth, called the crema, on the top. Typically, it is consumed black, as it is served, but it can be sweetened if desired.

The Cup

Traditionally espresso cups are small and dainty, usually 2-3 oz. in size. The cup is just a little bigger than the serving size of the drink. This allows room for toppings, should they be desired. Additionally, the aroma is able to be savored, much like with wine. In Italy is not unusual to see people breathing in the aroma as they hold the cup and saucer.

There are many different types of cups available. This doesn't necessarily mean that you should use them. Today's fast paced world has pushed out very sturdy yet disposable products and cups didn't get left out. They are available in sturdy plastic and glass; however they are traditionally porcelain.

True Italian espresso cups are made of thick walled porcelain and hand painted with various designs. These cups are sometimes referred to as a demitasse, French for "half a cup". Oftentimes the espresso is allowed to drip directly into the demitasse, this allows the crema to form a beautiful, golden top in the cup without being disturbed when poured.

Today, you can purchase cups that are double wall insulated to keep the espresso hot longer and that have matching saucers. Regardless of old world type made of porcelain or today's insulated cups, true espresso connoisseurs are as interested in the quality and presentation as they are the espresso.

Plain or Fancy

Espresso cups can be found in plain white with matching saucers or as hand painted works of beauty. The digital age has made it possible to add even more flare and design to the cup. The one thing that you should never find is a paper espresso cup. If you do, you are not going to enjoy a true espresso as it is meant to be enjoyed. Espresso should not come in a to-go cup with a lid.

Enjoying an espresso is almost a ritualistic experience, from the brewing and serving to the inhalation of the aroma and the quick gulps of the small serving. True espresso enthusiasts will tap their cup against the saucer when they have finished.

Which Type of Coffee Cup is Best For a Perfect Cup of Coffee?

!±8± Which Type of Coffee Cup is Best For a Perfect Cup of Coffee?

It is obvious that the type of coffee you start with has the greatest influence on the final taste of your cup of coffee. Generic instant coffee will never taste anywhere near as good as Hawaiin Kona (or your favorite premium blend). Starting with fresh clean water is also important, which is why many coffee makers come with built in water filters. Of course the coffee maker and carafe should also be clean. But after the coffee is brewed, details such as the type of coffee cup you use can also affect the final flavor of the coffee (unless you are using generic instant coffee, in which case there's really nothing you can do to make it taste better).

One of the best types of coffee cup is a ceramic mugs made of porcelain. Porcelain is not porous and due to their very smooth surface, is usually easy to clean. Porcelain is also fairly inert and will not add any chemicals to your coffee. You want to make sure you use a cup designed for drinking though - some "ornamental" porcelain cups that are designed as artworks use glazes that may have chemicals that could leech into your coffee. Fortunately, regular ceramic mugs are both common and inexpensive.

Although less common than ceramic mugs, glass coffee mugs are also excellent and have all the properties of ceramic mugs, although ceramic mugs tend to insulate a bit better than glass mugs. They also have the benefit of looking good when filled with coffee, displaying its rich auburn brown color (at least until you add cream and sugar).

Stainless steel coffee cups are excellent, although some people feel that they impart a bit of a metallic taste to the coffee. Unlike glass and porcelain, stainless steel is unbreakable. Most stainless steel coffee cups are insulated and designed to keep your coffee warm for a longer period of time. Usually they also come with a lid to both prevent spillage and aid in keeping the coffee warm.

The worst type of coffee cup is plastic, Styrofoam or paper. Chemicals will often leech into your coffee, and adversely affect the flavor. Surprisingly, although paper isn't as bad as plastic or Styrofoam, many coffee shops still serve their premium coffee in wax coated paper cups. Beyond just flavor, there are some concerns that plastic and Styrofoam cups contain harmful chemicals that can leech out if the coffee is hot enough. These cups are also bad for the environment.

Coffee residues cling to even glass or ceramic mugs. It's important to clean your coffee cup regularly. When the coffee stains start to built up to the point where they can't be cleaned with soap and water, filling the mug with vinegar will often do the trick. Vinegar's non-toxic, so it's much better to use than chlorine based cleansers.

The type of coffee cup or mug you use may not be the most critical component of a great cup of coffee, but if you're trying to brew the perfect cup of coffee, it's worth considering.

Make Your Own Healthy Organic Dog Food

!±8± Make Your Own Healthy Organic Dog Food

You may well be aware of all the benefits of switching to an organic diet for a healthier and longer life. But did you know that your canine pal can benefit from eating organic dog food also? By changing your dog to an organic food source, you can do your best to ensure that he or she lives a longer, healthier life. Benefit from less trips to the veterinarian, more energy, and better overall health.

You can also save yourself a bunch of money by making your own organic dog food right at home. Not only will this make you feel better knowing that you are promoting better health for your dog, but also you can save a bunch of money at the same time.

Steps to Better Dog Food

One of the first things that you need to have handy when you go to make your own organic dog food is an air-tight container to store the finished product in. Homemade dog food should only be stored for a few days, certainly not more than four or five days. Be sure not to make up any more than your dog will consume through that period. Organic dog food should be fed in much the same way as typical store bought dog food. If your dog currently eats a cup of dry food per day, then the same quantity of your homemade healthy dog food should do the job nicely.

Maybe the second most important element of your organic dog food is the base ingredients you use. Choose only the good cuts of ground beef, turkey, or chicken that you would feel comfortable feeding to your family. Cook the meat you choose thoroughly, and blend to achieve a fine texture in your blender or food processor.

Adding vegetables to your organic dog food is also important. Dogs need beta carotene for good eyesight. Grind several carrots (three or four) in your blender to a fine pulp. Mix both meat and vegetables together and add several cups of well cooked, brown rice. This will help to bind it all together. This should then be stored in an air-tight container in your refrigerator. Feed it to your dog as required.

Making your own organic dog food is easy and it only adds a few dollars to your grocery budget.

Top Reasons to Choose Organic Pet Food

Maybe you have been considering making the switch to organic pet food, but you are unsure about it. Read the following list of top reasons why organic is best for any pet. Not only will your pet thank you for making the switch to this new healthy dog food, but your budget should be smaller.

A Healthier Pet, Smaller Budget

When you make the switch to organic pet food for your dog or cat, you will no longer be included with those pet owners who need to check their pet food each time there is a product recall. By changing to organic, you can help to ensure that your furry friend has not only a well balanced diet, but also contains no chemicals and preservatives.

Just as with an organic diet for you and your family, organic pet food can help your pet live a longer, healthier life. When you eliminate the preservatives and additives from your pet food, you will worry less about vet visits, because your pet will have a stronger immune system. By feeding your pet organic pet food, you are helping them to be stronger and healthier.

Not only will your pet live a healthier and longer life, but your budget will look much better as well. Not only can you purchase organic food for your pet much cheaper than you can purchase store bought pet foods, but you can also create your own organic pet food in your home for only a few dollars. This should prove to be the most healthy dog food you could provide.

Make Your Own

By making the switch to organic pet food, you will have the peace of mind that comes from knowing you are giving your pet healthy food at a minimal price. By making your own organic pet food, you can help to ensure that you and your family pet can have a long and healthy life together for a long life.
